MetaMask is a cryptocurrency wallet and Web3 browser extension that allows users to interact with the Ethereum blockchain and compatible networks. The extension acts as a bridge between your browser and blockchain networks, allowing you to send transactions, swap tokens, and participate in decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms without running a full node.
Open your browser and navigate to the official MetaMask website. Click on the download button and select Chrome as your browser.
You will be redirected to the Chrome Web Store. Click “Add to Chrome” and confirm the installation. The MetaMask fox icon will appear in your browser toolbar.
After installation, open the extension. Choose to create a new wallet or import an existing one using your secret recovery phrase.
MetaMask will generate a 12-word secret recovery phrase. Write it down and store it offline in a secure location. This phrase is the only way to recover your wallet.
To log in, click the MetaMask icon in your Chrome toolbar. Enter your password to unlock your wallet. Once unlocked, you can access your account balance, send tokens, and connect to decentralized apps.
If you log out or close the browser, you must re-enter your password to regain access.
When visiting a Web3-enabled website, click “Connect Wallet.” Select MetaMask and approve the connection within the extension popup. Always verify the website URL before approving access.
Click the puzzle icon in Chrome and pin MetaMask to your toolbar.
Reinstall MetaMask and restore your wallet using the 12-word recovery phrase.
Add custom networks manually in the settings if needed.
